Remote Online Notarization (RON): The Complete Guide

How RON works, which states allow it, and when a video notarization is the right choice for your document.

Remote Online Notarization (RON) lets a commissioned notary witness your signature over an encrypted audio-video connection. The notary verifies your identity using knowledge-based authentication and credential analysis, then applies a digital seal and tamper-evident certificate to the electronic document.

Most U.S. states now permit RON, but acceptance of a RON document depends on the state where it will be used and the receiving institution. Mortgage lenders, title companies, and county recorders may have their own RON policies.

RON is ideal for time-sensitive contracts, international clients, and signers with mobility constraints.
