How RON Identity Verification Actually Works

Knowledge-based authentication, credential analysis, and live video — the three-factor ID process behind every remote online notarization.

RON identity verification has three required components in most states. First, knowledge-based authentication (KBA): the signer answers a series of questions generated from public records (former addresses, prior employers, vehicle registrations). Failing twice in a 24-hour period blocks the session.

Second, credential analysis: the signer uploads or live-captures a government-issued photo ID. The platform's verification engine validates security features, MRZ codes, and document integrity.

Third, live video: the notary visually confirms the signer matches the ID on camera, then proceeds with the signing. The entire session is recorded and retained per state law — typically 5–10 years.
